Kering is the luxury fashion conglomerate that owns premier brands like Gucci, Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent, and on Monday (15th September, 2025), they confirmed that it is a significant Kering data breach. This security incident expose personal information of the millions of customers, though the company has assured that sensitive financial data was not compromised.

The notorious hacking group ShinyHunters has claimed responsibility for Kering data breach. The group alleges that stolen data connected to approximately 7.4 million email addresses, a claim first reported by the BBC. The information that hackers accessed includes customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, home addresses and their total in-store purchase amounts.

However, Kering was firm that credit card numbers and other financial details were not stolen and begun contacting customers who were affected by the breach but has not publicly disclosed the total number of individuals impacted or the specific timeline of the security lapse.

Although credit card numbers were not exposed, the Kering data breach leaves millions of customers vulnerable. Security experts warn that the type of data stolen names and contact information is exactly what criminals use to craft convincing scams that can lead to identity theft. The incident is a stark reminder that in the high-end retail world, protecting a customer’s personal data is as critical as protecting their financial information.
