- Release date: Thursday, 19 November 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar says the console versions release at midnight on 19 November.
- Preload: opens 10 November for digital orders. PS5 unlocks at midnight local time; Xbox unlocks once worldwide at 00:00 GMT (still 9 November in the Americas).
- Download size: up to 212 GB, says Rockstar. Free about 250 GB to be safe.
- Price: Standard Edition $79.99, Ultimate Edition $99.99 (digital only).
- No PC version and no online mode at launch. GTA 6 launches as a single-player game, and Rockstar has not announced a PC release.
GTA 6 is finally days away. This page answers the launch-week questions in one place: when it unlocks where you live, when you can preload, how much space you need, which edition to buy, and what is not in the game on day one. We will update it as Rockstar confirms more.
What Time Does GTA 6 Unlock?
Rockstar’s support team says the console versions release at midnight on 19 November 2026. Rockstar has not published an hour-by-hour table, so here is what that means in practice.
- PS5: PlayStation games usually unlock at midnight local time in each store region. New Zealand gets it first and the Americas last.
- Xbox Series X|S: Rockstar opened the Xbox preload at one global time (00:00 GMT). Launch may follow the same pattern, so check the countdown on the game’s Xbox Store page instead of assuming local midnight.
If GTA 6 unlocks at local midnight on PS5, these are the times to expect:
| Region | Expected PS5 unlock (local time) |
|---|---|
| New Zealand | 12:00 AM, 19 Nov (first in the world) |
| Australia (Sydney) | 12:00 AM AEDT, 19 Nov |
| Japan | 12:00 AM JST, 19 Nov |
| India | 12:00 AM IST, 19 Nov |
| Pakistan | 12:00 AM PKT, 19 Nov |
| UAE / Saudi Arabia | 12:00 AM, 19 Nov |
| UK | 12:00 AM GMT, 19 Nov |
| Central Europe | 12:00 AM CET, 19 Nov |
| Brazil | 12:00 AM, 19 Nov |
| US East Coast | 12:00 AM ET, 19 Nov |
| US West Coast | Reported as 9:00 PM PT, 18 Nov (if the US store opens at midnight Eastern), otherwise 12:00 AM PT, 19 Nov |
Bought a physical copy? Rockstar says boxed copies should reach retailers from 12 November. Reports say the box holds a download code rather than a disc, so you still need the full download.
GTA 6 Preload Date and Time
In a Newswire post on 3 November, Rockstar moved preloading for digital orders forward from 12 November to 10 November. Preloading lets you download the game now so it is ready to play the moment it unlocks.
| Platform | Preload opens | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 | 10 Nov, 12:00 AM local time | Each region opens at its own midnight |
| Xbox Series X|S | 10 Nov, 12:00 AM GMT | One worldwide time: 7:00 PM ET / 4:00 PM PT on 9 Nov, 5:00 AM PKT and 5:30 AM IST on 10 Nov |
Some Rockstar store and support pages still list 12 November. The Newswire date (10 November) is the newer one.
How to preload GTA 6
- Buy or pre-order the digital version on the PlayStation Store or Xbox Store (or redeem the code from a boxed copy).
- Turn on automatic downloads: on PS5, Settings → System → Power Saving → Features Available in Rest Mode → Stay Connected to the Internet; on Xbox, Settings → General → Power options → Sleep and enable automatic updates.
- Free up space (see below) before preload opens, then leave the console in Rest Mode or Sleep overnight.
- When the preload finishes, the game shows a countdown until it unlocks. Expect a day-one patch on launch night as well.
GTA 6 Download Size: How Much Space You Need
Rockstar says the preload needs up to 212 GB of free space, depending on your console. It has not given separate figures for PS5, Xbox Series X and Series S.
- Xbox: the Xbox Store lists 225.34 GB. That figure counts 1 GB as 1,000 MB; your console counts 1 GB as 1,024 MB, so it shows about 210 GB. Both numbers describe the same download.
- PS5: earlier PlayStation Store data showed about 210 GB.
- Day-one patch: the installed size can grow once the launch patch arrives, so aim for about 250 GB free.
An original 825 GB PS5 has about 667 GB of usable space (newer 1 TB models about 848 GB), and a 512 GB Xbox Series S has about 364 GB, so GTA 6 alone takes up a big share. A USB drive will not help you play it: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S games must run from the internal SSD or an approved expansion (an M.2 SSD on PS5, a Storage Expansion Card on Xbox). Use a USB drive only to park other games while you make room.
GTA 6 Editions and Prices
Pre-orders opened on 25 June 2026. There are two editions. Despite what some sites claim, there is no “Deluxe Edition”.
| Edition | Price (US) | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | $79.99 | The base game. Available digitally and boxed (code in box). |
| Ultimate Edition | $99.99 | The base game plus extra vehicles, properties and customisation content. Digital only. |
- Pre-order bonus (both editions): the Vintage Vice City Pack.
- Digital pre-orders also get one free month of GTA+, which works in the current GTA Online (GTA 5).
- Upgrading later: Standard owners are expected to be able to buy an Ultimate upgrade. Its price has not been officially confirmed.
Which one should you buy? Standard is enough for the story. The Ultimate content is mostly cosmetic and convenience items, so it only makes sense if you plan to put many hours into Leonida, or if you want everything from day one.
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and No PC Yet
| Platform | GTA 6 at launch? |
|---|---|
| PS5 and PS5 Pro | Yes |
| Xbox Series X | Yes |
| Xbox Series S | Yes |
| PS4 / Xbox One | No |
| PC | No, not announced |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | No |
Performance: Rockstar has not published resolution or frame-rate figures for each console. Reports say the game targets 30 fps, and Rockstar has not confirmed a 60 fps performance mode at launch. Treat any Series S resolution numbers you see online as guesses until launch reviews arrive.
PC: Rockstar has not announced a PC version, a date or PC system requirements. A GamesBeat report in October 2026 said early 2027, but Rockstar has not confirmed it. GTA 5 took about 19 months to reach PC. If you only have a PC or a low-end laptop, read can you play GTA 6 on a potato PC. If you want a GTA to play on PC right now, see the GTA 5 PC requirements for Legacy and Enhanced.
Is GTA Online in GTA 6 at Launch?
No. Rockstar and Take-Two describe GTA 6 as a single-player experience launching on 19 November. Rockstar has not announced an online mode or a date for one. Reports of a release “within a month” or “before Christmas” come from insiders, not Rockstar. For comparison, GTA Online arrived two weeks after GTA 5 in 2013. Until GTA 6 gets its own online mode, the current GTA Online on GTA 5 keeps running.
Launch-Week Checklist

- On launch night, check for the day-one patch before you start playing.
GTA 6 Launch FAQ
Can I play GTA 6 early?
No. You can download it from 10 November, but it stays locked until 19 November. There is no early-access edition.
Does the GTA 6 disc have the game on it?
Reports say boxed copies contain a download code, not a disc, so even boxed buyers download the full game (up to 212 GB).
Will GTA 6 run on Xbox Series S?
Yes. The Series S is an officially supported platform. Expect lower resolution than on the Series X and PS5, and note that the game takes up a large part of the Series S’s 512 GB drive.
Is GTA 6 coming to PS4 or Xbox One?
No. GTA 6 is only for current-generation consoles: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
When is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Rockstar has not said. The only date going around is an unconfirmed report of early 2027.
